Obituary Derrick Greaves 1927-2022
Very sad to announce the death of much-loved artist Derrick Greaves, who passed away at the age of 95.
Derrick Greaves was one of the most important British painters of the last half century, initially gaining acclaim in the 1950s when he represented Britain at the Venice Biennale along with the other ‘Kitchen-Sink’ painters with whom he was associated. Born in Sheffield in 1927, Greaves apprenticed for five years as a sign-writer, before winning a scholarship to the Royal College of Art where he studied from 1948-52.
During the ’60s his work moved away from the social realism of his previous pieces, taking on instead a more stylised approach. His work is prominently displayed in the world’s most prestigious public galleries, including the Tate Gallery, the Contemporary Arts Society, the Arts Council of Great Britain and the New York Public Library. He died in 2022. (from https://www.goldmarkart.com/collections/derrick-greaves)

Obituary Brenda Ferris 1938-2022
We are very sad to report the death on 23 August 2022 of a dear friend, Brenda Ferris, former Chair and long term Trustee of ncas, and a great supporter of the arts generally, as well as Labour councillor for Bowthorpe and former Mayor of Norwich. At the age of 84, Brenda passed away peacefully at home. Our thoughts and memories of Brenda are expressed perfectly by Robert Short, fellow former Chair and ncas Trustee for many years.
