About Art in Norwich and Norwich Visual Art ForumArt in Norwich is a collective marketing initiative which is part of the Norwich Visual Art Forum which was originally started by the Norfolk Museums service and Norwich City Council to network the visual art groups in the city. With a large number of active groups producing and exhibiting visual art, it was important to develop an anti-clash calendar for organisations in the city, and a greater awareness of planning and programming to avoid awkward or inadvertent collisions. The partners contribute this calendar, co-ordinated, designed and produced twice a year in March and August by Marion Catlin of Culture Shift Norwich. Partners also help to distribute the booklet and cross-market each other's events.
For details about how to be an Art & Culture in Norwich and Norfolk partner, please see the panel on the right. There is no formal membership but anyone that contributes to the booklet content can be involved in the co-marketing initiative. There are costs involved in being included in the booklet but it is non-commercial and non-profitmaking, aiming to promote arts and culture in Norwich and Norfolk The group has been meeting for some years and has expanded. It started off as a Norwich-based initiative but as activity around the county has expanded, so has the reach of the booklet. In addition to visual art, any kind of cultural or culture-related activity is welcome to be included. The main criteria is that it benefits the audience and the artists that use it. Following the example of sister group, Music in Norwich it was decided to get together regularly, not just to produce the joint exhibition listing calendar but to enable all members to be informed of each others plans and activities and to explore potential for joint programming and strategic actions. The aim is to promote visual art, sculpture and public art more widely across Norwich, Norfolk and the country. Meetings are convened twice a year and are hosted by partners at various locations. |

The cost of production is shared by the contributors on a per page rate: there are 'listing' or standard pages (current cost £115) and 'feature' pages (current £165). Listing pages follow the house format with a bit of information about the organisation. Feature pages are own artwork and can be any style. They are generally more prominent and so cost more. The extra money helps to increase the print run. This cost includes a page on the Art in Norwich website and also any social media that we can manage.
