Journey: 1979
Join us as we celebrate 40 years of The South Asia Collection.

In 1979 Philip and Jeannie Millward began their journey in Lahore and, over the course of several trips, finished in Karachi nine months later. As they travelled, they began to collect objects made by local craftspeople: including carved woodwork, old copper and brass items, embroidered Sindhi shawls and phulkaris.

This journey was the start of a life-long passion for the arts and crafts of South Asia and would result in a thriving shop, museum and research centre.

Using Philip and Jeannie’s photographs and journal entries from 1979, this exhibition tells the story of that first inspiring journey.

About SADACC
The South Asia Collection is a unique museum that celebrate the arts, crafts and cultures of South Asia and neighbouring countries. The Collection is housed in a Victorian architectural gem, a restored roller-skating rink in the heart of Norwich – close to the Forum and marketplace in Bethel Street.

The shop is run by Country & Eastern, who have over 40 years of experience working with artisans in South Asia, importing a wide range of decorative furnishings direct from South Asia.
