Will Teather exhibitions at Anteros Arts Foundation
and Mandells Gallery, Norwich
A collection of recent portraits by Will Teather are on display the front space of the Anteros Arts Foundation, Norwich. The artist's figurative paintings and drawings often depict curious characters caught up in uncanny situations. Influenced by magical-realism and lifting motifs from diverse sources such as Flemish still life, baroque art and Weimar painters, the artist enters into direct conversation with the history of painting with the aim of bringing a contemporary sensibility to the table.
A second exhibition of new drawings by the artist is on display at Mandells Gallery. Under the umbrella title “Desolation Angels,” these affordably priced drawings explore the quasi-religious celebration of consumer excess within popular culture, such as junk food, technology and weaponry.
Work from other ongoing projects by the artist will also be on display. Both exhibitions run until the end of April.
Will Teather is well-known for creating artworks that combine an unusual imagination with a mastery of traditional skills. Teather has featured in exhibitions and publications internationally, receiving numerous grants, awards and scholarships. He has been awarded spells as Artist-in-Residence for venues in New York, Aberdeen and Norfolk. Work is held in public and private collections in the UK and overseas.
